Booker's blues

New Orleans piano legend James Booker is featured performing live in the early '80s.

New Orleans pianist James Booker made his recording debut in 1954 on the Imperial label.

A flamboyant character infamous for his drug dependency Booker once made an agreement with Harry Connick Sr. who served to provide his son Harry Conncik jr. with free piano lessons in exchange for a nullified prison sentence.

While touring Europe in 1977 he recorded the award winning "New Orleans Piano Wizard: Live!", at the Boogie Woogie and Ragtime Piano Contest held in Zurich, Switzerland.
